The Postgraduate Training Programme for Development Cooperation

Every year, the nine-months Postgraduate Training Programme of the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) prepares up to 20 German and European university graduates for the challenging tasks and responsibilities of German and international development cooperation. During the training phase at DIE, the participants deal with the practical challenges of sustainable development in a globalised world. Working within small and interdisciplinary groups in developing countries, which is a core part of the programme, gives them the opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge and gain practical experience in the framework of consulting-oriented research projects.

Eventually the DIE provides extensive career counselling for the participants of the programme and assists with the job application procedure. Almost all graduates are successful with their applications in national and international development organisations. In Germany, around 100 junior professionals are being employed in the field of bilateral and multilateral development cooperation every year. Approximately 20 percent of those have graduated from the DIE-Postgraduate Training Programme.

An excellent command of the German language is required to participate in the Postgraduate Training Programme. Please find detailed information and admission requirements in the German section of the DIE-Homepage.
